ASUU: No plan to strike

Talking with Premium Times today, September 14, the Chairman of the University of Abuja section of ASUU, Ben Ugheoke, said that he was wrongly cited on the supposed strike.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) supposedly cited Mr Ugheoke on Tuesday, September 13, that instructors strike was to start in October.

Mr. Ugheoke said:

"A specific columnist in NAN is in charge of this harm. As an aftereffect of this misrepresented report, I am confronting a board later today evening time from ASUU National body."

The Chairman uncovered that he has requested the nullification of the story since it was distributed.

"I have connected with the NAN columnist and he let me know it was a misunderstanding. He likewise beseeched me to spare his employment," he said.

The reports of the approaching strike were generally circled by the Nigerian media where Mr Ugheoke was cited to have said that ASUU would set out on a one-week cautioning strike on October 2.

The report included that an out and out strike was set for November if the central government declined to meet the requests from its arrangements with the union in 2009 and 2013.

Mr Ugheoke denied issuing notice for any strike, faulting the false news for a NAN journalist.
