Bayelsa University Alumni Fault Gov Dickson Over Failed Negotiation With ASUU

The Alumni of the Bayelsa owned University, the Niger Delta University in Ammassoma community of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council yesterday described as "insensitive" the posture of the State Government over the failed negotiation with the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU).

‎The negotiations between the Bayelsa State Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)
had last month broke down due to alleged refusal of both parties to shift grounds over the conditions on the payment of six moths salaries owed lecturers of the Institution.

While the State Government alleged that ASUU is responsible for the break down of talks, the ASUU alleged that the State Government failed to meet its demand for full payment of Four out of six moths owed lecturers.

But in a statement issued yesterday in Yenagoa , a member of the Alumni Association of NDU and a Former Government Adviser on Student Matters,Comrade Mike Olomu said though negotiations is continuous, the refusal of the State Government to accede to ASUU on full payment of Four out of Six months salary owed is wicked and sad," the Government should not allow NDU die."
Comrade Mike Olomu, who dismissed the arguments and controversy surrounding the planned setting up of a private University, said the State Government should ensure that the NDU is re-opened for academic sessions," I don't want to believe Governor Dickson is delibrately tryoing to kill the Niger Delta University. It is sad and pathtic that the students have lost a full session due to the strike action and refusal of the state Government to meet their demands."

Olomu called on Political Leaders and stakeholders in the State to intervene and resolve the logjam between the ASUU and State Government," those to join their colleague at the NYSC can not go. We want to say that setting up a private university is commendable, but the NDU must not be allowed to die."

" Let the Governor know that even though his kids are not students of the State university, some of his aides and in-laws are students and are also stranded and unhappy with him. "
